Is the 60cm PLUS drum a good beginner djembe for adults?
Yes. It’s one of our most popular entry-level djembes for adults and teenagers. The 12-inch head gives plenty of room for your hands, the Comfort Curve playing edge is rounded and easy on the hands, and the mahogany shell produces a clear, responsive sound.

How does an Indo djembe compare to an African djembe?
The main difference is in the wood and depth of tone. African djembes are carved from medium density twenaboa (such as Ghana djembes), or dense hardwoods like lenke, khadi or iroko, which produce a wider tonal range and more projection.
An Indo djembe is made from sustainably sourced mahogany, giving a warm, musical sound at a more accessible price. For beginners, home practice, adult workshops, and school programs, the Indo range delivers genuine quality without the cost of an African hardwood drum.
Why does the goat skin on this djembe look darker than others I’ve seen?

Pigmentation and variation in colour are positive when it comes to drum skins.
Many entry-level djembes on the market use processed skins stripped of their natural oils, leaving them dry, thin and prone to splitting, particularly in Australia where humidity and temperature can shift quickly.
Our natural, unbleached goat skin holds its oils, which means better tone, more warmth between the bass, tone, and slap, and a longer lifespan.
Is this a sustainably made djembe drum?
Yes. The shell is hand carved from eco-friendly mahogany grown in Indonesia, and we give 5% of each drum’s value to the East Java Plant a Tree Program.
We also plant a tree in Ghana for every African djembe sold. All materials across the Indo range are natural and sustainably sourced.
