This section brings together drums that sit outside the more common categories, including instruments such as Bata drums, Udu clay drums, half calabash, Bara, Kenyan Bul drums, Kpanlogo, and other less frequently seen percussion.
These drums come from different cultural contexts and playing traditions, and many are one-off or produced in small numbers. Construction varies across the range, from carved wood and clay to calabash and mixed materials, with each instrument shaped by its function and origin rather than a standardised format.
This is a space for drums that don’t fit neatly elsewhere, but are still an important part of wider percussion traditions.
