Who is the 60cm Classic Djembe suited to?
The 60cm Classic is a full-sized djembe with a comfortable 11-inch playing surface, suited to smaller hands or shorter adults, and a slim mahogany shell that’s easy to transport and store. It works well for workshops and for younger players finding their feet.

The natural, unbleached goat skin gives it genuine warmth across the bass, tone, and slap, the three core sounds of the djembe.
If you are an adult getting started on your djembe journey, the 60cm Plus Indo djembe or our Ghana djembes are worth a look.
Or if you want a bundle, the Teen Smasher Pack includes the Classic with a zip bag, practice cover, and student handbook.

How does the 60cm Classic compare to the 60cm PLUS Indo djembe?
Both the Classic and the 60cm PLUS djembes are small adult sized beginner djembes. They are 60cm tall and made from eco-friendly mahogany.
The PLUS has a wider 12-inch head, giving more room for your hands and a fuller bass tone.
The Classic is a strong entry level starting point.
The PLUS is worth considering if you want more voice and a playing surface closer to a full African djembe.

What’s the difference between an Indo djembe and an African djembe?
African djembes originate with the Mande-speaking peoples of West Africa, traditionally hand-carved from dense hardwoods like lenke, khadi or iroko.
These woods produce a wide tonal range and strong projection.
An Indo djembe is made from sustainably sourced mahogany, giving a warm, musical sound at a more accessible price.
African Drumming has sourced and built djembes for over 25 years, and the Indo range is made to our specifications for consistent tone and finish.
For beginners, teenagers, and adult workshops it delivers genuine quality without the cost of an African hardwood drum.
When you’re ready to take the next step, our African djembe range is worth exploring.
