West Africa meets tropical paradise on our Bali Drum Retreat for Beginner, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced level drummers, on the serene island of Bali in Indonesia.

The Bali Drum Camp is an 8-day tropical retreat to deepen your knowledge of West African music.

Directed by acclaimed percussionist, teacher, and tour curator Simon Fraser, you’ll enjoy a minimum of 4 hours of tuition per day, with classes for Beginner, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced levels.

Fast-track your playing through repetition, dexterity, and technique, with plenty of chill time in beautiful Bali.

Your Drumming Journey

All classes are supported by local dunun players, with plenty of opportunities to practice and jam.

Final Concert

One of the retreat’s highlights is the final night concert: A special night of live performances, drumming, singing, and dancing.
The perfect way to finish 10 days of musical growth, and celebrate each other’s journeys on the drum.

Set within the peaceful township of Candidasa, each of these lovely venues has a bar, restaurant, and a beautiful pool.

Founder of Melbourne-based African Drumming, Simon has been studying, performing, recording and teaching throughout West Africa, Europe and Australia since the 1990’s.

Born into a Griot family, Bassidi is known for innovative solo playing and technical virtuosity. He founded Bwazan, one of Mali’s leading percussion groups, and now teaches and performs worldwide.

Yes, absolutely. The Bali Drum Camp is open to participants from all over the world. Whether you’re based in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the US, or elsewhere, you’re welcome to attend. The camp draws a diverse, international community of drummers and dancers.

Yes, non-drumming companions are welcome. You can bring a partner or friend who wants to relax, enjoy the retreat setting, and soak up the atmosphere without participating in the classes.
They can stay at the venue and join in for meals and social time.

The rate includes your accommodation, all drumming and dance classes, breakfast and dinner each day, airport transfers, and access to shared facilities like the pool.
