Himalayan singing bowls are cast from a metal alloy rather than a single metal, and the exact blend varies by piece.
The antique bowls in this range are hand-tempered from a traditional 7-metal alloy that includes silver and gold, some pieces 80 to 100 years old, while the newer Classic bowls are hand-hammered from a 5-metal alloy in the same style.
Striking or circling the rim with a striker sets the metal ringing, and the alloy composition and wall thickness together shape the bowl‘s pitch and how long the note sustains.

A 10 to 15cm singing bowl is the easiest starting point, light enough to hold in one hand while you find the right pressure on the rim.

The Shanti range covers this size bracket and is the most affordable line here for learning striking and circling technique before moving up to a heavier Classic or Antique bowl.

Once you can hold a steady, sustained note on a smaller bowl, sizing up mainly changes the pitch and sustain rather than the technique itself.

Smaller singing bowls sing at higher pitches that fade faster, while larger bowls drop lower and sustain longer.
In this range, a 12cm Classic bowl rings from around 451 to 1268Hz, close to a third eye chakra pitch, against an 18cm antique bowl at 258 to 732Hz, associated with the base chakra.

Wall thickness and the metal alloy factor in too, but size is the main driver, which is why sets are built to step down through several sizes rather than repeating one bowl.

Strike the outer edge of a singing bowl with the striker for a full, layered tone, or circle the striker slowly around the rim to draw out a single sustained note.

Circling takes more practice than striking, since the pressure and speed need to stay even as the bowl builds up its ring.

Most bowls in this range come with a cushion to rest the bowl on between strikes, so it keeps ringing freely instead of dampening against a hard surface.

Our sets come in two structures: hanging sets group three or five bowls on a single cord that steps down in size, while standard sets give you individual standalone bowls in metal or crystal, each with its own cushion and striker.

A hanging set is played by working down the cord in one motion, while a standard set is played as each bowl rests on its individual cushion or in the palm of the hand.

Keep a metal singing bowl dry and rest it on its cushion when it’s not being played, since knocking the rim against a hard surface or another bowl can dull the tone over time. Wipe either type with a soft, dry cloth if dust builds up, and avoid abrasive cleaners on the crystal finish.

The Singing Bowl Mallet in our range has a suede-wrapped head on a hardwood handle, and comes in two sizes: a medium for bowls under about 15cm and a large for bigger, deeper bowls. Match the mallet size to the bowl rather than using one across your whole collection, since an undersized mallet struggles to set a large bowl’s rim moving evenly.
