Meet your teachers
RONALD MORALES
Born in Chile, Ronald began studying West African percussion in 2010 under Guinean Djembefola Dartagnan Camara. He has taught and performed across Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, and is now an active member of Melbourne’s drumming community, performing with Mamba Negra and Strike-it while running workshops across Victoria. Ronald is passionate about sharing the knowledge passed on to him by leading ambassadors of this rich culture.
DJULZ CHAMBERS
Djulz is devoted to the music of the African diaspora and the worldview that shapes it. Her twenty-year journey with traditional West African drumming has taken her around the world, including extended immersion in indigenous cultures of West and Southeast Africa.
Combining deep study of African percussion with her interest in esoteric philosophy, she creates unique educational and healing experiences that use drumming as a pathway to deeper connection.
MICHAEL NAUDE
Born in Zimbabwe, Mike began his musical journey with Southern African rhythms, practicing various disciplines since 1998. In 2015, his passion turned westward toward the djembe, deepening after moving to Melbourne to study under Simon Fraser and Bassidi Koné. He performs with fiery ensemble Dunu Teké and continually explores West African rhythm, believing music lives in us all – we just need to learn its language.
Tribalism: Student Performance
Tribalism is a showcase for our drumming students who come together to share their music and growing skills.
Our Djembe classes take the stage, performing what they’ve been learning for friends, family, and the community.
The event brings together the best of grassroots drumming and dance from across Melbourne, featuring a mix of student performances, guest musicians, and plenty of energy. It concludes with a big jam, where everyone joins in for one final burst of music.
