RONALD MORALES

Born in Chile, Ronald began studying West African percussion in 2010 under Guinean Djembefola Dartagnan Camara. He has taught and performed across Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, and is now an active member of Melbourne’s drumming community, performing with Mamba Negra and Strike-it while running workshops across Victoria. Ronald is passionate about sharing the knowledge passed on to him by leading ambassadors of this rich culture.

DJULZ CHAMBERS

advanced drumming teacher plays african djembe in park

Djulz is devoted to the music of the African diaspora and the worldview that shapes it. Her twenty-year journey with traditional West African drumming has taken her around the world, including extended immersion in indigenous cultures of West and Southeast Africa.
Combining deep study of African percussion with her interest in esoteric philosophy, she creates unique educational and healing experiences that use drumming as a pathway to deeper connection.

MICHAEL NAUDE

African Drumming teacher in the park playing dun while collaborating with other players

Born in Zimbabwe, Mike began his musical journey with Southern African rhythms, practicing various disciplines since 1998. In 2015, his passion turned westward toward the djembe, deepening after moving to Melbourne to study under Simon Fraser and Bassidi Koné. He performs with fiery ensemble Dunu Teké and continually explores West African rhythm, believing music lives in us all – we just need to learn its language.

Tribalism is a showcase for our drumming students who come together to share their music and growing skills.
Our Djembe classes take the stage, performing what they’ve been learning for friends, family, and the community.

The event brings together the best of grassroots drumming and dance from across Melbourne, featuring a mix of student performances, guest musicians, and plenty of energy. It concludes with a big jam, where everyone joins in for one final burst of music.

What do your Advanced djembe classes include?
Our Advanced Djembe Classes focus on more complex rhythms in 4/4, 12/8 and 9/8 time signatures. We focus more on advanced technique, solo phrases & chains and general group dynamics.  The pace goes up a notch in our Advanced class and is definitely for more experienced players with a deeper feel and knowledge of the music.

How do I participate in your advanced class?
If you are interested in joining, please email [email protected] – we’d love to hear from you!

Can I get a refund if I can’t attend a class?
We don’t offer refunds on class tickets. If you let us know by 5pm on the day of your class, we can transfer your booking to a future week at no extra cost. Missed classes cannot be transferred.

What if I miss a djembe class?
All advanced djembe classes in Melbourne are recorded, and you can request the video to catch up.
Plus, we offer practice resources to support your learning.
