The Emerald Forest is from our Pearl Hues collection.

The Emerald Pearl Darbuka collection from legendary instrument makers Gawharet El Fan is simply stunning.
The signature shape and sound are matched by ornate handmade façade features.
Blue and green-tinted Mother of Pearl pieces are meticulously added to the exterior of each darbuka during the crafting process.
As fine an instrument as you will find on the market.

This drum is inspired by the deep dark shades of green, found in dense tropical rainforests. The deep colours of the forest canopy and the emerald Mother of Pearl pieces used throughout the design highlight a darker facet of the Emerald Pearl collection.

Comes with a canvas bag, spare skin, satin head cover, tuning key, and rubber base attachment.

We carry an exclusive range of Middle Eastern percussion from Gawharet El Fan, the Cairo instrument makers, as their Australian distributor. Making instruments since 1940 and credited with the first mother of pearl darbuka, Gawharet El Fan pair a wide tonal range with the mosaic work they are known for.

The darbuka takes its name from the Arabic “daraba”, to strike. Its goblet shape is ancient, versions turn up in Mesopotamian and Ancient Egyptian cultures, and in Babylonia and Sumer from around 1100 BCE.

Playing position varies. The drum sits under one arm, usually the non-dominant side, or lies sideways across the lap with the head towards the knees when seated.
Strap mounts let players sling it over the shoulder to play standing or while dancing. A light touch with the fingertips and palm gives a low-sustain sound. Moving a fist in and out of the bell shifts the tone, and a hand laid flat on the head mutes it.
