More Information
Our Facilitator Training Refresher course revisits the rhythm content, resources, and facilitation techniques from Facilitator Training Levels 1 and 2. Returning facilitators may attend Level 1, Level 2, or both sessions, depending on their needs. In each intensive session, participants explore how to structure lessons and drum circle experiences using the gradual release of responsibility model (warmers, explicit teaching, and guided/independent practice).
The course focuses on previously explored activities and facilitation methods, with some new content, to support participants’ musicality, personal growth, and wellbeing through African Drumming. Returning facilitators also have the opportunity to share experiences, ask questions, and deepen their individual practice on the path of the Djembe.
Meet Your Teachers
Djulz Chambers
Djulz has been practising the art of the Djembe and its facilitation for over fifteen years. Her earliest training was with Bobo cultural custodians in Northern Burkina Faso from 2005. Over several years spent living in traditional communities across the sub-Sahel, she developed a deep appreciation for the traditional context of the music as well as the health and wellbeing of its people. Since these early years she has applied the knowledge offered to her by indigenous West African teachers to people in the Australian context, nurturing a particular interest in how these ancient ways can support education and wellbeing on all levels.
FAQs
Who is this Facilitator Training Refresher suitable for?
This facilitator training refresher is designed for people who have previously completed our Facilitator Training Level 1 and/or Level 2, previously known as Teacher Training. The training is open to facilitators from a range of backgrounds and is not limited to classroom teachers.
Can I attend this refresher if I haven’t completed the Facilitator Training before?
No. Completion of the corresponding Facilitator Training level is mandatory to attend this refresher. If you are new to the training, we recommend enrolling in the full Facilitator Training first.
Is this refresher only for teachers?
No. While educators often attend, the Facilitator Training refresher is open to anyone facilitating African drumming, including musicians, community facilitators, and practitioners working in educational or wellbeing settings.
Does this Facilitator Training Refresher replace the full Facilitator Training?
No. This refresher is a compressed review of previously taught content and does not replace the full Facilitator Training. It is intended for returning facilitators who want to revisit key material without repeating the full course.
Do you offer other workshops for educators or facilitators?
Yes. We also run Professional Development workshops focused on African songs, rhythms, and percussion. These shorter sessions support inclusive learning, engagement, and wellbeing, and provide practical games, melodies, and rhythmic tools that can be used immediately in the classroom or facilitation setting.
