FAQs
What kind of gong is this mallet best suited for?
This mallet is ideal for large to extra-large gongs, typically 70cm and above.
It is also commonly useed on heavy(bronze) nipple gongs from 50cm upwards.
Its weight and padding help bring out the deepest, most resonant tones.
If you’re still choosing your gong, check out our gong collection here.
Can I use this mallet for other instruments?
While designed for gongs, this mallet can also work with other large percussion instruments. For specific mallets tailored to other instruments, see our Soft Mallet for Frame Drum or our Mallets for Tongue Drums.
What makes this mallet different from a standard drum beater?
Gong mallets are designed with soft, padded heads and a balanced feel to bring out the full body and sustain of the gong. Regular drumsticks or beaters tend to produce sharp, shallow strikes that don’t let the gong resonate fully.
Do I need more than one mallet?
Some players keep two options: this extra-large model for deep fundamentals, and a medium soft-head mallet for gentle swells.
Switching mallets helps you unlock the full voice of your gong.
How do I care for my gong mallet?
To keep your mallet in top shape, store it in a dry place and avoid compressing the felt head.
I’m not sure what to go for. Can you help me choose?
Absolutely! We love helping people find the right match, whether it’s an instrument, a class, or materials for drum making.
