Kids’ Day at the Spring African Drumming Retreat
Saturday 14 November 2026 | The Briars, Mount Martha
Join us for a special day designed just for kids at our 25th Anniversary Spring Drum Retreat. Set amongst 15 acres of bushland just one hour from Melbourne, The Briars is the peaceful backdrop for a day of rhythm, adventure, and fun.
The day kicks off with our whole-retreat Opening Ceremony and Jam, where kids and adults come together to celebrate the start of the weekend. From there, the kids’ program begins – starting with a djembe drumming session led by Odai, before heading outdoors for an afternoon of supervised adventures with The Briars’ own activity staff.
Across the day, your child will:
- Join the whole-retreat Opening Ceremony & Jam
- Learn djembe drumming with Odai
- Take part in outdoor activities including scavenger hunt, giant swing, archery, and a bush walk.
Schedule
10.00am – Opening Ceremony & Jam
11.00am – Kids Djembe Drumming with Odai
12.00pm – Lunch Break (BYO)
1.00pm – Supervised Outdoor Activities with Briars Staff
4.00pm – Pick-up
Please note: Children aged 5 and under will join a bushwalk in place of the giant swing, but can participate in all other outdoor activities.
Ticket Options
- Kids aged 6 and over: $90 per child | $30 for each additional sibling from the same family
- Children aged 5 and under: Free, when accompanied by a paying sibling
- Optional Camping add-on Saturday 14th November: $50 per family

Transfers & Cancellation Policy
Ticket transfers
If you can no longer attend, you’re very welcome to transfer your ticket to another child. All transfer details must be emailed to [email protected] by 12:00pm on Friday 13 November 2026.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made 7 or more days before the event will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 7 days of the event are non-refundable.
FAQs
What should my child bring?
Please pack a lunch, snacks, and a water bottle for your child. As well as sunscreen, a hat, comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor activities.
Can my child under 5 come along?
Yes! Children aged 5 and under can join for free when accompanied by a paying sibling (aged 6+). When the older children are scheduled on the giant swing, younger siblings can enjoy alternative options like a bushwalk or outdoor games with their parent or guardian.
Are there height restrictions?
Activities are designed for children aged 6 and over, which aligns with the safety requirements set by The Briars.
Do parents need to stay the whole day?
This is a family-friendly day designed for everyone to enjoy together.
For children aged 6 and over, a parent or guardian must remain on-site from 10.00am – 1.00pm during the drumming activities and lunch break. From 1.00pm onwards, families are encouraged to stay and the children will be in the care of Briars activity staff from 1.00pm – 4.00pm.
Parents of children aged 5 and under must remain on-site for the full day.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The Briars staff will make decisions on the day to ensure all activities are safe and enjoyable. Adjustments may be made if needed.

Medical Information and First Aid
Please ensure you provide any relevant medical conditions, allergies, or health information during registration so your child can be appropriately supported.
Basic first aid will be available on-site for minor incidents. For more significant medical needs, families remain responsible for their child’s care and any required medical plans.
Camping Details
There are several great spots for tents and campervans at The Briars, with a nearby male and female amenity blocks offering showers and toilets just a short walk away.
Note that powered sites aren’t available, but everything you need is close by.
BYO Food – The Briars has a large commercial kitchen with ovens, microwaves, glasses & cutlery.
Other on-site facilities include recreation room, dining room, sporting activities including gaga ball, volleyball and bushwalks. Please bring any balls or equipment your family would enjoy using.
Drumming Retreat Saturday Night Programme
Families who choose to camp are invited to join us for our Special Saturday performance and jam.
A true camp highlight! Live drumming, dance, percussion and vocal harmony create a powerful celebration of African music and culture.
The night continues with an all-in jam around the bonfire led by Magic Mike.
