Do I need two mallets to play a xylophone?
One mallet is enough to play a tune on a small xylophone, and the Mini Xylophone comes with a single striker. A second mallet lets a player use both hands, which makes faster passages easier, or lets two children play the same instrument.

How does a wooden mallet sound compared with a rubber one?
A wooden head gives a bright note with a sharp attack, so notes come through clearly on metal bars. Rubber heads mallets soften the start of the note and give a rounder sound, which is why steel tongue drums and the West African balafon are usually played with them.

Can I use this mallet on singing bowls or chimes?
Yes, it’s a light, multi-purpose mallet that suits small singing bowls, chimes and bells, as well as xylophones. The 1.5cm timber head makes only a small point of contact, which gives a fast attack and a clear pitch. On a small bowl or bell, that brings out the higher overtones of the instrument.
