Kinder Workshops

African drumming workshops for kinders and early learning centres introduce children to music through rhythm, song and storytelling.
Each session is interactive and age-appropriate, with authentic instruments and facilitators who share the cultural traditions behind the music. These incursions are available for childcare centres, preschools and kinders across Australia.

Musical Incursions for Kinders and Early Learning

Young children light up when the drums arrive.
Our kinder incursions bring West African music to life through hands-on drumming, songs and dance, with every child playing their own djembe.

Sessions are inclusive and engaging, welcoming all ages and abilities, and encourage movement, mindfulness, social growth and healthy cognitive development.

Guided by experienced facilitators , children experience rhythms alongside the traditions they come from, making music a source of joy, learning and wellbeing.

How Our Workshops Run

Our kinder music incursions run for 45 minutes, with shorter sessions for toddlers, and flexible timing to suit your group.

Each workshop begins with a lively performance and introduction from our facilitators, who bring their own stories, style, and expertise.

Children quickly start drumming on their djembes, exploring African rhythms, musical games and a joyful jam.

Singing and dancing are part of the journey too, creating a full cultural experience.
Sessions can also include time for questions, and activities can be adapted to the different needs of kinders, preschools, and early learning programs.

Learning and Wellbeing

Drumming gives children an experience that is active, calming, and socially engaging all at once.

The physical movement builds coordination and motor skills, while the steady beat encourages a mindful state where children can focus and feel centred.

Rhythms challenge memory and pattern recognition, supporting cognitive growth and laying early steps toward numeracy and problem-solving.

Drumming together develops social skills such as listening, turn-taking, and teamwork, making the workshops valuable for both group learning and individual growth.

FAQs

Our African drumming workshops are designed to suit different group sizes.
We can run a session for as few as 10 children, or for groups of up to 30.
When numbers are larger, usually over 40, we bring in a second facilitator to keep the workshop interactive and inclusive.
Every child still has their own djembe to play, so the experience remains hands-on, fun, and well supported.

Our kindergarten incursions are tailored for children from as young as 3 months through to 5–6 years old.
Babies enjoy gentle, sensory music sessions with soft instruments and flute, while toddlers and older children get hands-on drumming, rhythm games, and movement.
Each program is adapted to suit the age group.

Our kindergarten drumming incursions are available across Australia.
We have experienced facilitators based in major cities and regional areas, which means centres in every state can take part.
We also run regional tours so that preschools and kindergartens outside the cities can enjoy the interactive cultural drumming experience. Wherever your centre is located, we’ll do our best to bring an African drumming incursion to you.

These sessions are designed for young learners, so they work well with any group of children in the early years.
They’re a popular choice not only for kindergartens, but also for childcare centres, preschools, and playgroups.
We also run them successfully at community centres, early learning programs, library holiday activities, and cultural festivals.
Wherever there’s a group of little ones ready to explore rhythm and movement, our workshops are a great fit.

Yes – many centres like to have their own instruments, so the drumming can continue after the workshop.
You can view our Kinder instrument packs here.
We’ve also put together a kinder catalogue that showcases drums, shakers, and percussion instruments at discounted education rates.
Everything is chosen with little hands in mind, and the packs make it easy to bring music into everyday programs.

Yes. Our workshops are designed to align with the current Australian Curriculum, and link directly to areas such as Creating and Making, Developing Skills, and Intercultural Understanding.
We also provide a detailed document on request that shows how our kinder and early learning workshops connect to specific curriculum outcomes.

We offer 4-week kinder drumming program to give children the chance to develop focus, coordination and listening skills through rhythm.
Each weekly session builds on the last, allowing confidence and skills to grow step by step.

Week one introduces the African drums and percussion instruments in a playful, hands-on way.
In the following weeks, children take part in call-and-response drumming, rhythm games, songs, and movement.
By the final week, the group is playing together, creating music as a team, and celebrating what they’ve learned.

Every program is adapted to the age group, making it an engaging and developmentally supportive music incursion.

We provide all the drums and percussion instruments for the session, so kinders don’t need to supply any equipment.
All that’s required is an open, safe space where children can play comfortably.
A semi-circle setup works well, and children under six are usually happiest sitting on the floor with their own drum in front of them.
If there’s extra room for movement and dancing, it makes the African drumming incursion even more engaging.

We can often accommodate last-minute bookings.
If you’re looking for a session at short notice, get in touch and we’ll do our best to make it work.
